Work with math, language arts, writing,
history, geography, science, health, workplace skills and
basic life skills to earn a middle school certificate.
Individualized and group study is used to improve reading
and vocabulary. ESL students must complete Advanced
ESL prior to enrolling |

Math Review - Distance Learning |
Brush up on math skills at home with
lessons on DVD and written course work. Meet the
teacher for follow-up. This is not a high
school credit course. ($20 refundable deposit required) |

High School *GED Test Preparation |
Work individually on classes
required for a high school diploma: English, fine arts,
math, science, social studies and electives. Preparing
for GED exam, you will take several practice tests and do
review work. Attendance schedule will be set by
students. |

Online GED Preparation Distance Learning |
While you
are completing diploma requirement courses in our Learning
Center, you can now study for the GED at home with the help
of the Internet. After you have taken the practice
GED, enroll with a counselor. Meet with the teacher to
get software and a password. Work at home on your own
schedule. To get help, you can contact the teacher
through e-mail or in person. The staff will monitor
your progress. Eighth grade reading level is a
prerequisite for enrollment in this course. No fee $40
refundable deposit. |

Distance Learning - GED CAHSEE |
Study for the GED & High
School Exit Exam tests while working on course work
necessary for an adult high school diploma. Use
videotapes and printed material to review and prepare for
the tests. You'll meet with the teacher for
follow-ups. prerequisite: Eighth grade reading level for

For students who cannot read
or write in English, and/or do not speak English |

Beginning Low |
For students with limited
reading and writing skills in English. Emphasis is on
listening and speaking. Students learn the basic forms
and vocabulary of English needed in everyday situations. |

Beginning High |
For students who already
know everyday English words and phrases. Students
learn to communicate their basic needs in spoken and written
English. They learn to read simplified materials and
to take part in simple conversations. Vocabulary
development emphasized. |

Intermediate Low |
For students who know the
English necessary for everyday situations. Students
will learn to communicate in new situations, learn about
cultural differences and similarities. Topics are
chosen according to student interests. Begin to emphasize
correct forms. |

Intermediate High |
For students who can
effectively communicate in English in most familiar
situations. Emphasis is on improving written and
spoken communication. Course content is determined by
student goals and interests. |

Advanced Low |
For students who can
converse on most topics, but cannot speak fluently about
technical subjects. Students use basic grammar
structures correctly, but cannot self-correct complex
structures. Emphasis is on developing higher level
skills . |

fluently on a variety of topics and who make few errors in
structure. The goal is to prepare students to exit the
ESL program and transition to courses designed for native
speakers of English. Emphasis is on developing the
skills necessary to meet the student's social, academic, and

INT/ADV Writing Skills |
For
intermediate High/Advanced ESL students who need to improve
their writing in business situations. Students learn
to write clear and effective letters, memos, faxes, and
e-mail, and to understand business idioms. Write
documents to solve problems with products or services,
request information or assistance. Learn grammar and
usage that are appropriate for business writing. |

Language & Tutor Skills |
English for
the family (mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts and
uncles) to practice speaking English. Adults will be
studying English and learning to help their school-age
children with schoolwork. Free babysitting will be
provided for children age 2-8. School-age children
will get homework help in night class. |

Citizenship |
A review of
U.S. History and study of U.S. Government in preparation for
the naturalization examination. Citizenship
Preparation now available through ESL Distance Learning. |

Advanced Academic |
For ESL
students with college or university goals who need academic
skills beyond those taught in the basic adult ESL program.
Students will use authentic reading passages to develop
vocabulary and reading skills. Reading discussions will be
the basis for learning to write well-organized paragraphs.
Students should have completed Advanced ESL course. |
Pronunciation/Reduce Accent

Designed to
improve the pronunciation and communication skills of
non-native English speakers who have intermediate to
advanced levels of English proficiency. Identify the
parts of your accent that prevent understanding and work to
improve them. Conversation, audiotapes, listening exercises
and general fluency lessons will be included. |

Intermediate/Advanced: useful English Conversation

For
intermediate and advanced level ESL students. Use the
grammar and vocabulary you already know. Learn the
latest idioms and slang. Practice Conversation with
native speakers of English, and discuss topics covered in
